Minister of Public Works and Roads Ghaleb Mutlaq met on Monday with Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services in Amman Mohammed Othman, UNOPS representative in Yemen Mayar Rasoul, and projects advisor Khaldoun Salem.

The minister reviewed aspects of cooperation between the Ministry and UNOPS in the implementation of road projects in the Capital Sana'a and a number of provinces.

Minister Mutlaq pointed out the importance of the interventions implemented by UNOPS in the field of roads to alleviate the suffering of citizens and facilitate the arrival of food and medicine supplies.

The minister explained that the ministry has a vision for emergency interventions, the most important of which are the roads linking the capital with other cities and ports, pointing out that there are many roads that need maintenance, and the ministry aspires to be covered by UNOPS projects, including destroyed bridges.

In return, the UNOPS team valued the efforts and cooperation of the Ministry of Works and its keenness to overcome the difficulties faced by the projects and interventions of the United Nations Office for Project Services in the field of roads, stressing the readiness to provide support to include more urban and rural road projects, training and rehabilitation for cadres working in the field of public works and roads.

The team pointed to the importance of the projects implemented in the field of roads due to their association with various service aspects such as agriculture, health, hygiene and others, which makes them a priority to the United Nations Office for Project Services.
