YEMAC: 1,666 ERW cleared last October

Yemen Executive Mine Action Centre (YEMAC) stated on Saturday that it managed to detect and clear 1,666 Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) during last October.

A report issued by the Centre indicated that the remnants included 308 anti-tank mines and 15 explosive materials and 9 explosive devices, 1,330 miscellaneous missiles.

He stated that the Centre had begun to carry out a non-technical survey (initial) in 3 districts in Bayda province, where 36 areas are contaminated with an area of 670,000 square meters, I,ndicating that an area of 171,000 square meters was marked as mined fields.

The report confirmed that the Executive Centre’s teams in Hodeida province cleared the area of 142,728 square meters.

The Centre noted that 88,755 citizens, displaced persons and children have benefited from the Centre’s awareness activities of ERW risk in 11 districts in 3 provinces.
