Yemen, ICRC discuss implementing water, sanitation projects

Minister of Water and Environment Abdulraqib al-Shurmani has discussed the projects of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to be implemented during the current year in the water and sanitation sector.

During his meetings with the Deputy Head of Mission and the Water and Housing Coordinator, the minister touched on the interventions of the Red Cross mission during the past year and the extent to which it met the existing need for water and sanitation projects in the capital Sana'a and the provinces.

He focused on aspects related to supporting efforts to provide renewable energy in light of the continued detention of oil derivatives ships by the aggression, especially since alternative energy is environmentally friendly and at the same time one of the elements of sustainable projects.

The Minister of Water and Environment pointed out the direct and repeated targeting of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression against the water and sanitation sector in Sana’a, Amran, and various provinces, as well as preventing the entry of oil derivatives ships and equipment for operating water pumps and treatment plants.

He touched on the damages that affected the water tanks in the city of Sa'ada recently that were targeted by the aggression's raids, leading to the shortages of supplying water to citizens in the province.

Minister al-Shurmani confirmed that the institutions and bodies affiliated with the Ministry of Water are working at the minimum level, expressing hope that the mission will double its interventions in the water and sanitation sector.

He expressed the readiness of the Ministry to find solutions to overcome any difficulties that might impede the interventions of the Red Cross mission in implementing emergency service and humanitarian projects.
