The Governor of Taiz, Ali Al Muammari, announced on Wednesday, that, the first stage of a military operation, being carried out, to break months-long siege, laid on Taiz by the rebel Houthi group and militants loyal to the now-deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh, was a success.

Yemen's state news agency quoted Al Muammari as saying that, Taiz will be liberated from injustice, siege and rebellion.

He praised the Yemeni army and pro-government Yemeni National Resistance, backed by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, for achieving victories and liberating the city's western entrance.

The Yemeni army is carrying out a large-scale military operation, in the east and west of Taiz, and has so far managed to liberate the district of Dabab, Han Mountain and the Hadharan area, from the rebels.

The army units penetrated the rebel-held eastern neighbourhood and managed to advance to the Sala area, the agency reported.

The south-western city of Taiz is located between the Houthi-held city of Sanaa and the southern port city of Aden.

Meanwhile, Taiz governor, toured Dabab and Taiz city, to examine the situation, while life is gradually returning to normal.
