The Executive Director of the Yemeni Center for Human Rights, Ismail Al-Khashab, met today,Monday, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba.
In the meeting, which was attended by the Advisor to the President of the Supreme Political Council for Diplomatic Relations Affairs, Ambassador Abdul-Ilah Hajar, the Director of the Center pointed out the importance of the UN official’s visit to Yemen to learn about the reality of the humanitarian situation as a result of the aggression.
Al-Khashab handed over to the representative of the Secretary-General a summary of the humanitarian situation in Yemen as a result of the crimes of the aggression coalition since March 2015, which included some statistics showing the number of civilian victims, whose number reached more than 44,600, including dead and wounded, most of them women and children, as a result of direct targeting by raids air, land and sea, in addition to tens of thousands who killed as a result of the blockade and travel ban, as well as the prevention of the arrival of food, medicine and petroleum derivatives in the largest humanitarian disaster witnessed in the modern era, as recognized by the United Nations and its organizations.
For her part, the UN official touched on the importance of the role of civil society organizations in clarifying the facts to the world, by submitting reports on monitoring and documentation to the relevant international bodies, and communicating with them on a permanent basis, so that these organizations have a prominent role in stopping these violations.
Gamba stressed that the role of these organizations is multiple in Providing assistance to local and international official bodies.
At the conclusion of the meeting,Gamba was handed over a set of reports issued by the Center in Arabic and English, including the study “The Security Council and the Aggression against Yemen - Raids and Decisions,” and the report “A Childhood in the Color of Blood and the Smell of Death.”
Gamba expressed its thanks to the Yemeni Center for providing it with these reports.
