Team committee discuss the documentary film challenges in the live of female prisoners

A documentary film, “Prisoners on the Edge of Loss,” created by a number of students at Sana’a University, was premiered last week in Sana’a. The film discussed the suffering of female prisoners inside Yemeni prisons and how they are dealt with both by prison guards and society at large.

Shawqi Al-Qadi, Chairman of the Rights and Freedom Committee, called on the Yemeni people to work together to solve society’s problems, including those involving female prisoners. He also called on media outlets to seriously focus on the issue.

Ramzia Al-Iriani, head of the Yemeni Women’s Union, said the National Committee for Women – with the help of lawyers in different governorates – had defended a number of prisoners in Yemeni jails.

For his part, the manager of Sana’a’s Central Prison said the prison administration attempts to follow human rights laws and facilitates all visits by media outlets.
