YEMENI FM SAYS REBEL-FORMED POLITICAL COUNCIL “CONSTITUTIONALLY VOID”

Posted on August 11, 2016 By Web Desk

Yemen's legitimate government on Wednesday said that a political council formed by rebels is "constitutionally void", and is tantamount to an attempt to overthrow the government.

In a press conference in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdelmalak Al-Mekhlafi said that the rebels' political council contravenes and violates all agreements.

Moreover, he warned that any session undertaken by this council would amount to "treason", calling on Arab parliamentarians to take action against the rebels, whom he noted are prolonging the conflict.

In addition, the Yemeni Foreign Minister said that UN-brokered peace talks in Kuwait had called for the political council to be nixed and to stifle any attempts to overthrow the internationally-recognized government.
