Ibb: The branch of the General Authority for Water Resources and Facilities in Ibb Governorate, in coordination with the local authority and security agencies, implemented a field campaign to backfill 15 illegal hand-dug wells in Al-Sayyani District.
According to Yemen News Agency, the director of the Authority's branch in the governorate, Muhammad Al-Warafi, clarified that the implementation of the campaign comes within the efforts to protect water resources and limit random drilling, which poses a direct threat to groundwater reserves. He indicated that the wells that were backfilled were dug randomly without obtaining legal licenses, in violation of the Water Law and its regulations.
He pointed out that the Authority is working to regulate drilling and the optimal exploitation of water according to legal frameworks, achieving a balance between the needs of citizens and the requirements of preserving groundwater reserves. He affirmed that the campaign will continue until all illegal wells in Al-Sayyani District are backfilled and legal measures are taken against violators, which contributes to preserving water resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
Al-Warafi called on citizens to cooperate with the Authority's teams and adhere to the legal procedures regulating well drilling and license issuance.
For his part, the director of Al-Sayyani District, Ali Al-Nuwa'a, affirmed the local authority's support for the Authority's efforts in carrying out its tasks to preserve water. He stressed the importance of joint coordination to confront the phenomenon of random drilling due to its negative effects on the environment and society, and to preserve public order and natural resources in the district.
Meanwhile, the director of the Control Department at the branch, Abdul Karim Hamran, explained that the campaign comes within a supervisory plan that includes monitoring and field follow-up. He noted that the control teams continue to inventory and control illegal wells, and implement backfilling according to legal procedures, in cooperation with relevant authorities.
