79th Free Medical Camp for Eye Surgery Launched at Al-Zaydiyah Hospital

Hodeida: Deputy Head of the General Authority for Zakat Ali Al-Saqqaf, along with Hodeida Undersecretary for Northern Affairs Ghaleb Hamza, inaugurated the 79th free medical camp for eye surgery and cataract removal at Al-Zaydiyah Rural Hospital.

According to Yemen News Agency, the camp, which is funded by the General Authority for Zakat and implemented by the Health Care Association for Affected Communities in coordination with the Health and Environment Office, aims to provide examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, and more than 250 cataract surgeries and lens implant procedures for poor residents of Al-Zaydiyah District and neighboring districts over a five-day period.

During the inauguration, Al-Saqqaf highlighted the role of medical camps in offering healthcare to the poor and needy, thereby reducing the burden of treatment costs on patients. He noted that the Authority prioritizes health projects as part of its charitable programs, which enhances social solidarity and fulfills the objectives of the zakat obligation.

Hamza praised the General Authority for Zakat's efforts in funding health projects and supporting medical services, helping to alleviate the suffering of poor and extremely poor patients. He urged businessmen and philanthropists to pay zakat and allocate it to its designated beneficiaries.

In his remarks, Mohammed Hazza, Director of the General Authority for Zakat's office in the governorate, explained that the camp's funding addresses the increasing demand for eye surgery services and demonstrates the Authority's dedication to health projects benefiting poor and extremely poor individuals, in line with the legally prescribed uses of zakat.

Hazza also mentioned that the Authority's office in the governorate monitors the medical conditions of poor and extremely poor patients, providing treatment services at hospitals in Al-Hudaydah city as well as in central and rural hospitals in the districts. Patients requiring specialized treatment are referred to hospitals and medical centers in Sana'a.

Dr. Ali Al-Haddad, Director of the Health and Environment Office in the governorate, underscored the significance of medical camps in delivering eye surgery services to rural district residents, reducing travel and treatment costs. He acknowledged the General Authority for Zakat's support of the health sector.

Dr. Hassan Tameh, Director of Health Affairs at the General Authority for Zakat, explained that the camp is part of a broader package of medical projects implemented by the Authority, which includes eye surgery camps, the 'Life Support' project, kidney transplantation, medical assistance, and support for free medical services at the Republican Hospital.

Dr. Nashwan Al-Attab, Head of the Health Care Association for Affected Communities, detailed that the camp will run for five days, during which patients will receive medical services, medications, eyeglasses, cataract surgeries, and lens implantation procedures.
