Sana'a: Acting Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment Sam al-Bashiri on Sunday approved 102 new and updated standard specifications covering food industries and other commodities across various sectors.

According to Yemen News Agency, during the signing ceremony, which was attended by the Executive Director of the Yemen Standardization, Metrology, and Quality Control Organization, Abdullah Al-Atifi, al-Bashiri emphasized the importance of adopting national standards. He highlighted that these standards are crucial for ensuring food safety and protecting both citizens and the national economy from counterfeit and substandard goods.

Al-Bashiri also directed the establishment of a research laboratory within the authority. This laboratory will focus on studying food safety issues and will utilize graduation projects and postgraduate research to advance knowledge in this field.

The initiative's broader aim is to ensure that imported goods are free from toxic residues and harmful substances, which can negatively impact consumers and the environment. This is in accordance with directives issued by leader Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi.

Al-Bashiri further noted that the adoption of the new specifications is expected to address previously encountered challenges in the authority's operations, reduce losses for importers and local producers, and help preserve national capital.
