Sana'a: A meeting held on Sunday in the capital Sana'a, which included the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Hassan al-Sa'adi, and the Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Ammar al-Karim, discussed coordination mechanisms for implementing joint awareness programs in schools on agriculture, self-sufficiency, and the importance of national production.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting addressed the possibility of activating extracurricular activities and awareness campaigns in school radio broadcasts and classes. These initiatives would incorporate agricultural extension and production materials and programs, aimed at raising awareness about preserving local food sources, their benefits, and implementing afforestation and charitable initiatives.
The participants highlighted the necessity of integrating school activities that cultivate an understanding among students and young people about the significance of agriculture as a strategic option that contributes to the nation's development. They emphasized the need to rely on local products instead of imports.
They affirmed that focusing on the agricultural sector is crucial for achieving economic independence and food security. Additionally, they underscored the importance of raising awareness to support and encourage afforestation initiatives and the utilization of arable land, aiming to instill a farming culture and a sense of belonging to the land in the hearts of the rising generation.
Moreover, they stressed that educational institutions and school activities play a vital role in supporting national efforts to advance the agricultural sector. This can be achieved through organizing exhibitions, seminars, awareness campaigns, and practical activities that encourage students to engage with agriculture and local production.
The meeting concluded with the approval of forming a committee from the Ministry of Education to review the materials and programs prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant authorities. This committee will ensure the proper implementation of these programs to achieve the desired outcomes.
