Taiz:The Ain Al-Insaniyah Center for Rights and Development has condemned a Saudi airstrike targeting fishing boats off Al-Kadha coast in Dhubab District, Taiz Governorate, which resulted in the deaths of eight fishermen.
According to Yemen News Agency, the center described the attack as a direct assault on civilians and their livelihoods, labeling it a serious violation of international humanitarian law. The statement emphasized that targeting individuals not participating in hostilities constitutes a war crime necessitating accountability.
The Ain Al-Insaniyah Center highlighted the incident as part of ongoing violations against the Yemeni population, asserting that these attacks on fishing boats not only threaten the lives of fishermen but also deprive their families of vital income, exacerbating their suffering. Since 2015, documented figures from the center indicate that 1,090 fishermen have been killed or injured in 70 attacks, with 556 fatalities and 534 injuries. Additionally, over 2,000 Yemeni fishermen have been abducted, and approximately 4,700 fishing boats and fish landing centers have been destroyed.
The center attributed responsibility for the attack to Saudi Arabia, urging the international community and human rights organizations to protect Yemeni civilians, hold those accountable for serious violations of international humanitarian law, and end the assaults on fishermen and their livelihoods.
