Ain Humanitarian Center Condemns Execution of Prisoner Al-Afiri by Aggression Mercenaries in Taiz

Taiz: The Ain Humanitarian Center for Rights and Development has expressed strong condemnation regarding the execution of prisoner Issa Muqbil Ali Al-Afiri, who was executed by mercenaries of the US-Saudi aggression in Taiz Governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the center indicated that Al-Afiri faced fabricated charges and underwent a sham trial, which lacked adherence to fundamental standards of justice and legal procedures as mandated by Islamic law and international humanitarian and human rights law.

In a statement received by the Yemen News Agency (SABA), the center highlighted that Al-Afiri was among those included in the prisoner exchange agreement from the 2018 Stockholm Agreement, officially submitted to the United Nations via the Prisoners' Affairs Committee. This execution represents a grave breach of international humanitarian law, the Fourth Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners of war, and is regarded as a war crime under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

The Ain Humanitarian Center held the US-Saudi aggression coalition and its mercenaries fully accountable, both legally and criminally, for this crime and for any related or subsequent offenses against prisoners.

The center has urged the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to meet their legal and humanitarian obligations by conducting an immediate investigation into this crime and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

Furthermore, the center called upon the international community, along with human rights and humanitarian organizations, to denounce this crime and apply pressure to halt systematic violations against Yemeni prisoners. The center stressed that the ongoing silence of the international community in response to these crimes constitutes implicit encouragement for continued violations of international law and assaults on human dignity, undermining efforts to achieve peace and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
