Sanaa: The Multi-Purpose Al-Khabt Agricultural Cooperative Association in Al-Mahwit Governorate initiated a field outreach to the Al-Zaher Mountain Beekeeping Reserve in Al-Khobat. The initiative aims to enhance local honey production and develop the skills of beekeepers.
According to Yemen News Agency, the outreach program targeted five beekeepers who were not previously affiliated with the association. These beekeepers were integrated into production groups for the honey value chain while the association’s team inspected the reserve’s apiary sites to ensure compliance with regulations and instructions governing their work.
During the outreach, the team reviewed the conditions of the bees and their hive management methods. They also provided training workshops for local beekeepers on modern honey collection and processing techniques. This initiative contributes to improving product quality and increasing the economic returns for farmers.
Engineer Mohammed Abbas, the association’s president, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in supporting sustainable agricultural development and boosting local production. He highlighted the focus on transferring modern expertise to beekeepers, enabling them to optimally utilize the natural resources in the reserve.
Abbas also indicated that the association is planning to organize a local festival in the district during the year 1447 AH to market Dabba honey. The festival aims to support local production, raise the income level of beekeepers, and enhance opportunities to benefit from the honey value chains.
The outreach saw participation from the association’s coordinator in the district, Hassan Al-Nazili, the executive director of the association, Qassim Abdullah, the head of the honey and bee unit, Fahd Mutair, and the head of the plant production unit, Mohammed Ja’dan.
