Al-Mahwit: Discussing Challenges Facing Agricultural Cooperative Societies

Al-mahwit: A meeting held on Wednesday in Al-Mahwit province, chaired by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor for the Cooperatives and NGOs Sector, Dr. Ghassan Al-Madani, discussed the major challenges facing agricultural cooperative societies and ways to address them, in order to strengthen their role in serving farmers across the governorate.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included the Deputy Governor Essam Al-Nuzaili, the head of the Agricultural Cooperative Union branch in the governorate Ibrahim Al-Ghuwaydi, and representatives of agricultural cooperative societies from the districts of Al-Rujm, Al-Madina, Bani Saad, and Jabal Al-Mahwit. They reviewed the performance of these societies and mechanisms for their development, including expanding the base of contributors and strengthening community initiatives to help improve agricultural production.

The discussions addressed the level of implementation of cooperative activities and the challenges faced in administrative, technical, and financial aspects, along with proposed solutions to enhance their developmental role. During the meeting, the Undersecretary emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting and improving the performance of cooperative societies and strengthening their institutional capacities, enabling them to expand their activities and improve the level of services provided to farmers.

He highlighted the importance of training and qualifying personnel and enhancing their efficiency in line with development requirements. For his part, the Deputy Governor stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between government entities and cooperative societies to overcome challenges, ensure the sustainability of agricultural projects, and achieve food security. He underlined the need for role integration and activating community initiatives that support the agricultural sector.

Meanwhile, the head of the agricultural sector in the governorate, Mohammed Al-Jaradi, praised successful experiences of some societies that have contributed to serving the community and developing the agricultural sector. In turn, the Director of the Social Affairs Office, Dr. Yahya Al-Tayyari, emphasized the importance of transparency in financial and administrative aspects and improving institutional capacities of the societies through training and technical support.

Additionally, the representative of Bunyan Foundation, Abdulaziz Al-Musawba, stressed the need to strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors and provide technical and advisory support to cooperative societies to develop their programs and achieve their development goals.
