Taiz: Ahmed Al-Masawi, the Acting Governor of Taiz, inspected today the damage caused by floods in several villages of Al-Salu and Hayfan districts and neighboring areas, which led to the sweeping away of farmland and losses in agricultural infrastructure.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the visit, Al-Masawi, accompanied by Shura Council member Mohammed Hanash, Deputy Governor for Development Affairs Abdulwasa Al-Shamsi, and Director of the Agriculture Sector in the governorate Engineer Abdullah Al-Jundi, listened to reports from Al-Salu District Director Adel Shaalan, Hayfan District Director Abdulrahman Al-Areeqi, along with local notables and citizens, on the scale of damage to agricultural lands and the efforts being made to mitigate its effects.
The delegation toured areas affected by floods, including Fiyush Nakhla, Al-Suwaidiyah Valley, and Al-Ashar Valley in Al-Mashjab village of Al-Salu district, as well as Masaher Valley in Al-A'rouq, Hayfan district. The floods caused soil erosion and the sweeping of silt and sediments into farmland, negatively impacting the environment and agricultural development.
The Acting Governor instructed the assigned committee to submit a comprehensive report on the damage and recommendations to address the consequences on the environment and agricultural development, as well as losses sustained by the agricultural sector.
He stressed the need for urgent solutions to prevent recurrence, raising community awareness about flood risks, and protecting agricultural land, in line with the revolutionary and political leadership's directives, the Government of Change and Development's program, and the local authority's goals of achieving food security and reclaiming farmland through optimal use of natural resources.
Al-Masawi praised the role of the community and grassroots initiatives in advancing the agricultural and economic sector, supporting the path toward self-sufficiency, and reaffirmed his commitment to inspecting flood-related damage and addressing the consequences of farmland erosion.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Al-Shamsi and Agriculture Sector Director Engineer Al-Jundi emphasized the importance of land reclamation and improving productivity to reduce the import bill and enhance food security, noting that villages in the governorate contribute effectively to crop production.
