Hodeida: The annual al-Qate'a Festival for Tihama Folk Heritage concluded on Monday in al-Marawe'ah district of Hodeida governorate, coinciding with al-Wilayah Day.
According to Yemen News Agency, the festival, organized by a preparatory committee in cooperation with the Governorate's Youth and Sports Office, was a two-day event showcasing the cultural identity of the Tihama region. It featured artistic, theatrical, and acrobatic performances by folk groups, along with heritage performances depicting Tihama agricultural and marine life, as well as traditional hunting and harvesting methods. Notable events included heritage races with horses, camels, and camel jumping.
Imad al-Burai, Director of the Youth and Sports Office, highlighted the festival's role in presenting popular heritage and strengthening cultural identity, praising the high community attendance. He emphasized the office's focus on cultural initiatives to instill values and belonging among youth.
al-Marawe'a District Director Abdullah al-Marwani praised the organizers for their efforts in contributing to community awareness and restoring respect for popular heritage as part of Yemeni identity. He affirmed continued local council support for such cultural activities.
Khaled Mohieddin, head of the preparatory committee, noted the festival's diverse events and audience interaction, aiming to develop it into an annual national cultural event.
Visitors commended the festival's organization and content, calling for its expansion to broader segments of society and involving educational institutions.
