Sana'a: Al-Shawkani Institute for Teacher Preparation and Qualification organized a cultural event on Thursday to commemorate Rajab Friday-the anniversary of the faith identity-and to support the Holy Qur'an. The event was held under the slogan: 'With our faith identity, we defend our Qur'an and our sanctities.'
According to Yemen News Agency, the institute's dean, Yahya al-Zaydi, highlighted that Rajab Friday is not just a historical occasion but a deeply rooted faith identity that bridges the past with the present. He emphasized that it underscores the strong connection of Yemenis to Islam and renews their steadfastness and commitment to supporting the oppressed.
Al-Zaydi elaborated on the religious and historical significance of Rajab Friday, describing it as a pivotal moment in Yemen's history when Yemenis embraced Islam en masse. He stressed that this occasion is a testament to the enduring faith identity that has underpinned resilience and adherence to faith-based values throughout the ages.
He noted that Yemenis today exemplify this faith identity through their steadfast support for Islam, the Prophet, and his family, as well as their solidarity with Islamic causes, particularly the Palestinian cause and the people of Gaza and Lebanon.
The event was attended by the institute's vice deans Abdulwasee' Al-Nakhlani and Rashid Al-Sharif, the Director of Educational Media in Sana'a Ali Al-Makhlafi, educational staff, and social figures. It featured student performances that highlighted the significance of the month of Rajab among Yemenis.
Following the event, Dean Al-Zaydi inaugurated the Faith Identity Exhibition, organized by female students of the institute. The exhibition showcased accessories, handicrafts, tailoring, baked goods, embroidery, and perfumes, aimed at supporting local production and the economic front, moving toward self-sufficiency.
The exhibition also included models symbolizing missile forces and unmanned aerial vehicles, along with artworks depicting the suffering of the Palestinian people. These elements were intended to reinforce the faith identity among younger generations and underscore the importance of Rajab Friday, a time when Yemenis voluntarily embraced Islam through a message from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), delivered by Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
Al-Zaydi expressed pride in the faith awareness demonstrated by the institute's female students, which reflects Yemeni women's dedication to the faith identity, Qur'anic culture, and adherence to the Holy Qur'an and the Muhammadan path.
He concluded by stating that the event and exhibition are part of the institute's plans to commemorate Rajab Friday and the Month of the Faith Identity, in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.
