At least 11 dead, 27 missing in Beijing rainstorms

A total of 11 people have died and 27 others remain missing during rainstorms in Beijing, local authorities said Tuesday, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Amid the impact of Typhoon Doksuri, continuous heavy rainfall has lashed the city since July 29, with particularly severe rainstorms in the western, southwestern, and southern parts, the city's flood control and drought relief headquarters said. As of 6 a.m. Tuesday (2200 Monday GMT), Beijing recorded an average precipitation of 257.9 millimeters, with the urban area averaging 235.1 millimeters. So far, around 127,000 residents across the city have been relocated due to the rainfall.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday demanded all-out search and rescue of the people missing or trapped in floods and geological disasters in an instruction on the work regarding flood prevention and disaster relief. Xi also demanded efforts to minimize casualties.
