Socotra: The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology has firmly rejected attempts to transfer the management of Socotra International Airport to the Emirati company “Eastern Triangle.” The Authority views this move as a violation of Yemen’s national sovereignty and a disregard for the rights of its citizens.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Authority’s rejection is grounded in Articles (32) and (34) of the Yemeni Civil Aviation Law, which explicitly prohibits external interference in airport management. The Authority emphasized that Socotra International Airport is currently managed by qualified Yemeni personnel who adhere to international standards, negating the need for any external supervision.
The Authority condemned efforts to alter the airport’s identity and marginalize its national workforce under illegitimate pretexts, suggesting that such actions demonstrate a reliance on foreign entities. It further cautioned about the severe implications these measures could have on Yemen’s sovereignty, expressing solidarity with airport staff in opposing any form of foreign meddling. The Authority also lauded the national stance against these questionable activities in Socotra.
