Al-hodeidah: The Al-Hodeidah branch of the Public Authority for Slaughterhouses concluded a training program aimed at qualifying 'Quality Champions' in meat and leather value chains on Tuesday.
According to Yemen News Agency, the program was funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Initiatives Financing Unit and supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources. Implemented over a week in two training groups, it targeted 32 trainees from workers and stakeholders in the sector. The objective was to enhance their capacities in applying quality standards and improving practices related to meat and leather value chains, contributing to better economic utilization of products and by-products.
At the conclusion of the first group, First Undersecretary of Al-Hodeidah Governorate Ahmed Al-Bashri emphasized the program's importance in advancing the agricultural and livestock sectors. He praised efforts to develop local workforce skills and enable the application of comprehensive quality standards in this vital field. Al-Bashri described the program as the first of its kind in qualifying quality champions in meat and leather value chains, noting its inclusion of practical and applied components addressing significant economic, social, and environmental aspects. He stressed the importance of expanding such initiatives across other governorates to benefit from their outcomes and achieve sustainable development impact.
Deputy Governor for Services Affairs Mohammed Halisi stated at the conclusion of the second group that the training program represents a pioneering initiative, given its strategic importance and positive impact across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. He urged trainees to transfer the knowledge and skills gained into practical work to serve the community and develop local resources.
Director of the Slaughterhouses Authority branch in the governorate, Abdullah Al-Sharif, noted that the program aligns with the institution's efforts to improve performance and enhance staff efficiency, while promoting quality concepts across all stages of work related to meat and leather, thereby improving service delivery and maximizing the use of economically valuable by-products.
In the same context, Director of Planning at the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit Khaled Al-Gharati, along with Value Chain Officer for Meat, Leather, and Wool at the Ministry of Agriculture Naseem Al-Mahdi, and Assistant Value Chain Officer Nasser Al-Qadi, highlighted the program's advanced developmental and technical dimensions. They emphasized the need to replicate this successful experience in other governorates across the country, to correct past practices, enhance production efficiency, preserve the economic value of leather and meat, and achieve sustainability and growth.
