Milhan: The Community Initiative Support Project Esnad concluded on Wednesday in Milhan District of Al-Mahwit province, with the successful construction and renovation of 59 houses for families affected by flooding.
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative falls within the Disaster and Emergency Response Program and was implemented through a partnership between the local authority, Bonyan Development Foundation, the local cooperative association, and community members, under the supervision of the Supreme Emergency Committee.
During the closing event, First Deputy Prime Minister Allama Mohammed Miftah highlighted the project as a community-driven model of cooperative construction. He emphasized that this initiative turned a crisis into an opportunity for progress, showcasing the community's resilience when supported effectively. Miftah also stressed the importance of proper planning in responding to natural disasters and the success of relocating the project to a carefully selected site.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration and Rural Development, Mohammed Al-Madani, remarked that the Milhan project marked a significant step in community initiatives, with local residents leading the planning and implementation while official institutions provided support. He advocated for expanding the cooperative sector alongside public and private sectors to foster grassroots development.
Al-Mahwit Governor Hanin Qutaynah commended the collaborative efforts of the Bonyan Foundation, the local cooperative association, and the community, praising the Milhan project as a replicable model for other districts. Engineer Ali Maher from Bonyan Development Foundation explained that the project was founded on a participatory vision and emphasized the role of community as the cornerstone of sustainable development.
Milhan District Director Ghamdan Al-Azki confirmed the project's role in restoring stability to families who lost homes due to flooding and expressed the district's commitment to supporting further community initiatives. Meanwhile, Hassan Soud, Secretary-General of the Milhan Cooperative Association, highlighted the association's efforts in mobilizing community support and fostering an effective cooperative environment.
The project not only reconstructed homes but also addressed flood threats at multiple sites, demonstrating the impact of coordinated efforts between the foundation, local authorities, cooperative association, and residents on enhancing services and social cohesion.
