Sana'a: The Fifth Scientific Conference on Vascular Surgery, along with the Third Conference on Cardiac Surgery and the First College of Medicine Conference on Cardiovascular Surgery, wrapped up on Thursday in Sana'a. The event was organized by the Yemeni Society of Vascular Surgery and the Faculty of Medicine at Sana'a University.
According to Yemen News Agency, the two-day conference featured over 54 scientific papers and lectures, highlighting the latest technological and therapeutic advancements in vascular and cardiac surgery. The conference attracted approximately 500 senior doctors, consultants, and specialists from Yemen and abroad. Specialized workshops were conducted on performing cardiac surgeries without the use of general anesthesia.
Dr. Nabil Al-Madwahi, Head of the Yemeni Society of Vascular Surgery, described the conference as a significant scientific platform for sharing expertise and discussing advancements in this specialized medical field. He emphasized the extensive participation from both local and international consultants, with a primary goal of aligning Yemen's medical standards with global developments amidst ongoing challenges.
Dr. Al-Madwahi announced that the conference marked a scientific milestone for Yemen and the Middle East with the successful performance of the first two open-heart surgeries under local anesthesia and the first implantation of a coated stent in Yemen.
Dr. Al-Madwahi highlighted that the open-heart surgeries under local anesthesia were completed on two patients two months prior and were successful, with their outcomes presented during the conference.
Additionally, the conference included specialized workshops in cardiac and vascular surgery, where trainees received guidance from Yemeni and Arab experts and consultants. Discussions on the Yemeni fellowship programs in cardiac and vascular surgery for enrolled trainees were also held.
The second day of the conference featured presentations of lectures and research papers with regional participation, including the PAVA Vascular Surgery Association, alongside experts and professors in cardiovascular surgery. Participants from various Yemeni governorates also presented scientific papers and research.
The conference concluded with the recognition of the preparatory and scientific committees, supporting companies, vascular surgery graduates, and the best scientific research papers.
