Conclusion of Scientific Medical Conference on Plastic, Reconstructive, & Burn Surgery in Dhamar

Dhamar: The activities of the seventh Scientific Conference on Plastic, Reconstructive, and Burn Surgery concluded today in Dhamar Governorate. The two-day event was organized by the Yemeni Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Burn Surgeons, in partnership with Al-Riyada International Hospital in Dhamar.

According to Yemen News Agency, the conference brought together 400 doctors, specialists, and academics, presenting 45 scientific papers that addressed the latest advancements in the fields of plastic, reconstructive, and burn surgery.

The conference issued several recommendations emphasizing the importance of strengthening scientific research and advancing modern technologies, particularly through developing innovative fat injection methods, bio-stimulation techniques, and the use of artificial intelligence to achieve more accurate and safer outcomes.

The recommendations also highlighted the need to train medical professionals in the latest techniques through workshops and continuous training programs on new technologies such as laser applications, filler and Botox injections, and other procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.

The conference further called for the development of unified protocols for burn management, including standardized first aid practices, early and delayed reconstruction techniques, and infection control measures to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications.

It also recommended expanding the number of burn centers across all governorates to ensure rapid response for burn patients, as well as reactivating and reopening a microsurgery training center to train Ph.D. and board students in performing microsurgical procedures.

Additionally, the recommendations underscored the need to encourage subspecialties within plastic surgery, such as facial aesthetics, hand surgery, breast reconstruction, and microsurgery, to enhance both functional and aesthetic outcomes and provide advanced healthcare services.

The conference urged greater interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging integrative work among plastic surgeons and between them and other related specialties to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Finally, the recommendations stressed the importance of community awareness campaigns on the benefits of early cosmetic and functional surgical interventions for congenital deformities, burn prevention, proper first aid for burns, and ways to avoid complications.

The participants also called on relevant authorities to provide continuous support to the National Burn Center to ensure its sustainability and the delivery of the best possible care for burn patients.
