Sana’a: The Specialized Criminal Division in the Capital Secretariat conducted a significant session on Saturday, where the primary defendant in the case of eight-year-old Anhar al-Amari’s tragic demise provided a detailed confession. The charges include kidnapping, rape, and murder, which took place in the al-Sawma’ah District of al-Bayda Governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the session was presided over by Judge Abdullah al-Najjar, with Judges Hussein al-Ezzi and Mohammed Muflih also in attendance, alongside Prosecutor Ali al-Jawlahi and Court Clerk Abdul-Salam Abad. The court sought a response from Ahmed Abdullah Abd al-Nabi al-Amari, the primary defendant, to an appeal by the victim’s family advocating for his execution. Al-Amari, aged 17, expressed his support for the original verdict, which sentenced him to ten years in prison.
During his confession, the primary defendant detailed the crime, alleging that Ziad Abdullah Omar al-Amari, the second defendant, aged 19, coerced him into participating in the abduction of Anhar. The second defendant countered these claims, labeling them as false. In response, the victim’s family lawyer, Abdulkarim al-Wajih, submitted an appeal memorandum, backed by the prosecution, urging for capital punishment for both defendants, with a request for the case to be reserved for judgment.
The defense counsel for the second defendant sought more time to present witnesses. Consequently, the court scheduled the subsequent hearing for the following week, marking it as the final session to consider the defense’s evidence before reaching a verdict in accordance with legal protocols.
