Sana'a: The Board of Directors of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation in Amran Governorate today discussed, chaired by the Governor - Chairman of the Board, Dr. Faisal Jaaman, the level of the Corporation's performance during the first half of 2026. The meeting addressed efforts to improve water and sanitation services and enhance their ability to meet the needs of citizens.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting reviewed a detailed report on the level of service and financial performance of the Corporation, the percentage of implementation of approved tasks, plans, and programs, the activities and projects implemented, and the level of achievement in maintenance and rehabilitation work for infrastructure, water networks, and the Corporation's facilities.
The participants addressed the most prominent difficulties facing the progress of work, foremost among them the scarcity of resources and technical and operational needs, and ways to overcome them in a way that contributes to ensuring the continuity of water services and improving their access to citizens. There is also a need to expand the scope of service in Amran city.
They also discussed the size of debts owed by government agencies and other parties, and mechanisms for addressing them and improving the level of collection, to ensure the enhancement of the Corporation's financial resources.
At the meeting, Governor Jaaman stressed the importance of raising the level of performance of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation, considering water services among the basic services directly linked to the lives of citizens and their daily needs. He stressed the necessity of working to expand the Corporation's services to include various areas and neighborhoods of Amran city and benefiting from available capabilities and resources in developing the water network and improving the level of supply, to alleviate the suffering of citizens and enhance the stability of service.
The Governor of Amran urged the leadership of the Corporation and its workers to redouble efforts in the coming stage, focus on improving administrative, technical, and financial performance, raise the efficiency of operation and maintenance, and enhance procedures for collecting revenues and debts owed by others.
He pointed out the necessity that the collection process be accompanied by improving the level of service and directing available capabilities to priority projects, especially those related to increasing water production, expanding the scope of networks, and improving the level of service access to deprived areas within Amran city. The Governor praised the performance of the Corporation and the work it has achieved during the past period, despite difficult conditions and scarce resources, calling for building on what has been achieved and continuing to work with a spirit of responsibility to develop services and achieve better results in the coming period.
For his part, the Director General of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation in the governorate, Engineer Nabil Al-Houthi, reviewed a report on the level of achievement and activities implemented by the Corporation during the first half of the current year 2026. He explained that the Corporation carried out a number of maintenance and rehabilitation works for its infrastructure, at a cost exceeding 18 million riyals, with self-financing from the Corporation, within efforts aimed at maintaining the readiness of water facilities and networks and raising operational efficiency.
Engineer Al-Houthi noted that the maintenance works come within the ongoing measures implemented by the Corporation to address malfunctions, preserve the components of the water network and its facilities, and reduce stoppages that may affect the level of service provided to citizens.
He explained that the total number of beneficiaries of the services of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation in Amran Governorate is 98,000 people, and the total number of subscribers is 10,222 subscribers, noting that the Corporation received during the past period of the first half of the current year 179 new subscribers, an indication of the continued expansion of the base of beneficiaries of water services.
The Director General of the Water Corporation pointed out that the total amount of water produced during the first half of 2026 reached about 638,181 cubic meters, reflecting the volume of operational and technical efforts exerted by the Corporation to provide water to citizens according to available capabilities. He mentioned that the Corporation implemented a project to supply, install, and operate a solar energy system for Well No. 17 in Qa' Al-Boun, which was implemented at a cost of 130,000 dollars, funded by the Norwegian Council, noting the efforts of the Local Corporation for Water and Sanitation to expand the scope of service and achieve better sustainability for the water and sanitation sector.
