General

Sana'a: The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment held a press conference on Sunday to review the losses incurred across various economic sectors over 11 years of aggression and the US-Saudi blockade.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Acting Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment, Sam Al-Bashiri, stated that the total losses across economic sectors exceeded 458 billion, 437 million, 593 thousand, and 855 US dollars. He pointed out that the coalition of aggression targeted Yemen's economy in all its sectors with the aim of starving the Yemeni people, destroying infrastructure, disrupting, and halting public, private, and mixed-sector projects. This also led to many production facilities going out of service and the dismissal of about 60% of workers and employees in those establishments.

Al-Bashiri noted that the aggression resulted in the destruction of private facilities, the closure of roads, airports, ports, and the prevention of oil derivatives from entering the country, in addition to the destruction of roads and bridges. This has increased the suffering of citizens and raised unemployment to 65%.

He explained that direct losses in the industrial sector amounted to about 81.5 billion dollars, while direct losses in foreign trade reached 111.13 billion dollars. Direct and indirect losses in the oil sector were estimated at around 57 billion dollars, and losses in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries exceeded 111.2 billion dollars. The transport sector incurred losses of 13.644 billion dollars, the electricity sector 27.358 billion dollars, water and sanitation 808 million dollars, and the tourism sector 11 billion dollars.

The Acting Minister of Economy and Industry also indicated that losses borne by the state treasury amounted to approximately 30 billion dollars. For his part, Deputy Minister of Information Dr. Omar Al-Bukhaiti addressed the systematic targeting of the Yemeni economy and attempts to destroy it through both direct and indirect warfare.

He highlighted the efforts of Yemenis in confronting the aggression and working to thwart it, as well as the role of the September 21 Revolution in correcting the national path, achieving freedom and independence, and protecting the country from infiltration.

The press conference, attended by deputy ministers and officials from various departments of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, included presentations of key figures on losses across different economic sectors. Also present was the Deputy Head of the Yemeni Authority for Specifications, Standards, and Quality Control, Mohammed Al-Dailami.
