Aden: EU Ambassadors have successfully concluded their visit to Aden, engaging in high-level discussions with key political figures in the region. The diplomatic delegation met with the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), President Rashid Al Alimi, Prime Minister Salem bin Breik, Vice Foreign Minister Mustafa Noman, Vice-Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Mohammed Basardah, Deputy Minister of Legal Affairs and Human Rights Fahmi Noman, Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) Ahmed Ghaleb al-Maabaqi, Speaker of the Parliament Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani, and the Chairman of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) Mohammed al-Ghaithi.
According to European Union, the discussions centered around reaffirming the EU’s steadfast support for the PLC and the Yemeni Government. The Ambassadors emphasized the importance of unity and ongoing reforms while also expressing strong backing for UN-led peace initiatives. They encouraged continued constructive engagement with the United Nations Special Envoy (UNSE) and acknowledged the CBY’s critical role in stabilizing the currency and fostering economic recovery. The delegation also underscored the unique legislative and oversight functions of the Yemeni parliament and the CRC's role in facilitating political dialogue.
The EU delegation further highlighted the necessity of creating a conducive environment for humanitarian and development operations. They stressed the importance of safeguarding civic space and ensuring the protection of human rights. In addition to their political engagements, the Ambassadors met with civil society representatives and visited the Creative Hub Aden and the Studio of Women Voices Without Borders. They reiterated the EU’s commitment to supporting a vibrant civil society in Yemen, promoting culture and creativity, and advocating for the empowerment of women and the protection of children's rights.
