Sana'a: The Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, organized an expanded meeting focused on steering scientific research towards the localization of industries. This initiative, held in partnership with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, aimed to strengthen the national economy by reducing reliance on imports.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Hassan Al-Saadi, stressed the need for developing an actionable plan to implement the meeting's decisions and recommendations effectively. He highlighted the critical role researchers play in overcoming developmental challenges by leveraging local human, material, and economic resources.
Acting Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Sam Al-Bishiri, revealed that significant strides have been made in localizing industries, which has helped curb imports. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among government bodies, academic institutions, research centers, and the private sector to create a roadmap that harnesses Yemeni intellectual capabilities for industrial and developmental growth.
Al-Bishiri expressed optimism that the meeting would yield practical recommendations to enhance collaboration between factories and researchers, reaffirming the ministry's dedication to supporting innovations that contribute to the national value-added goods chain.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, President of Sana'a University, attended the meeting and reiterated the university's commitment to scientific research, noting the institution's involvement in postgraduate studies across numerous master's and doctoral programs aimed at community service development.
The meeting was also attended by various deputy ministers and other high-ranking officials from different sectors, including electricity, finance, and agriculture. Dr. Munir Al-Qadi, Head of the General Authority for Sciences, Research, Technology, and Innovation, underscored the strategic importance of directing scientific research to localize industries, which he described as a sovereign choice for achieving national independence.
Mohammed Salah, Deputy Head of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, affirmed the private sector's belief in the vital role of industry localization in safeguarding the national economy. He stressed the necessity of a scientific and research foundation to ensure sustainability.
Fouad Al-Junaid from the Ministry of Economy presented a comprehensive national framework for industry localization in Yemen. Meanwhile, Judge Al-Qadi discussed the coordination and partnerships necessary between educational, research, and industrial sectors to direct scientific research effectively.
Dr. Taha Al-Washli of Sana'a University presented a paper focusing on aligning applied scientific research with developmental needs and industry localization. The meeting concluded with the exchange of ideas and discussions, resulting in several strategic recommendations.
