Exploring Expansion of Field Operations Between Mine Action Center and Red Cross Committee

Sana'a: The Director of the Executive Mine Action Center, Brigadier General Ali Safra, met with the Regional Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for the Middle East and Near East, Nicolas von Arx, who is currently visiting Sana'a, to discuss ways to expand joint field operations in mine action and the clearance of remnants of war.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting reviewed the results of the ongoing partnership and cooperation in implementing humanitarian activities related to mine action. These efforts are aimed at contributing to the protection of civilians, reducing risks in affected areas, and addressing the extent and scope of contamination caused by mines and cluster munitions, which result in daily casualties.

The discussions also touched on the key challenges facing the implementation of field programs and potential solutions to ensure the sustainability of operations and the achievement of shared humanitarian objectives. Brigadier General Safra expressed his deep gratitude for the support provided by the Red Cross mission in its humanitarian work, both in the mine action sector and beyond.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to continued cooperation and coordination, intensifying humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of affected populations, and strengthening national capacities in mine action and the clearance of remnants of war. The meeting was attended by the Head of the ICRC Mission in Yemen, Christine Schebolla, Deputy Heads of Mission Nour Al-Jam and Yves Van Lou, along with several representatives from the Weapons Contamination Section.
