Sana'a: 2,056 graduates of medical specialties holding bachelor's and diploma degrees in the capital city took the first competency exam of 2026 for professional practice, organized by the Medical Council.
According to Yemen News Agency, Dr. Abdulkarim Sheiban, Chairman of the Medical Council, confirmed during his inspection of the exams at the Faculty of Medicine - the electronic center at Sana'a University, that for the first time, a unified exam was launched for all specialties in Sana'a, Ibb, and Al-Hodeidah. He noted that 3,764 applicants took the unified exam, representing graduates from various medical faculties, emphasizing that the competency exam measures the proficiency of medical and healthcare personnel and ensures their readiness for fieldwork.
Dr. Sheiban described obtaining a professional practice license as a mark of success and the ability of medical staff to perform their duties efficiently and competently, as well as a reflection of public trust in them.
Meanwhile, Dr. Amin Al-Junaid, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council, explained that bachelor's degree holders were distributed across the following specialties: Medical Laboratory Technology (150 applicants), Dentistry (186), Nursing (115), Human Medicine (257), Clinical Pharmacy (18), Pharmacy (177), Midwifery (31), Diagnostic Radiology (11), Anesthesia (26), Therapeutic Nutrition (17), Mental Health Care (12), and Physical Therapy (7).
Diploma holders were distributed as follows: Medical Assistant (281), Midwifery (231), Nursing (131), Pharmacy (200), Medical Laboratory (65), Dentistry (7), Dental Assistant (21), Emergency Care (7), Anesthesia (23), Radiology (7), Respiratory Therapy (12), and Surgical Operations (76).
