Sana'a: The Imam Al-Hussein School team from Sanhan District emerged victorious in the 1446 AH Summer Schools Open Football Championship held in Sana'a Governorate. The event was organized by the Youth and Sports Office along with the Youth Mobilization Unit of the governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Sanhan District team clinched the championship title by defeating the Imam Ali School team from At-Tayal District with a decisive score of 5-1. The final match was hosted at Al-Thawra Sports City Stadium in the capital city of Sana'a.
Ali Hadban, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the Sports Sector, underscored the significance of these sports tournaments in enhancing the skills of summer camp students across various sports, including football. He reiterated the Ministry's dedication to supporting summer camp students in nurturing their creativity and sporting abilities, promising continued backing for sports clubs and members at both the governorate and district levels.
Faris Al-Kahali, Undersecretary of the Sana'a Governorate, lauded the Youth and Sports Office for sponsoring the summer camp sports tournament and encouraging students to engage in football, which helps in fostering their physical and athletic talents. He highlighted the role of the summer courses, which encompass religious, scientific, social, cultural, and sports programs, in reinforcing participants' faith identity and promoting Quranic culture. He also acknowledged the sportsmanship demonstrated by the players vying for the championship.
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of the Governor's Deputy, Abdulghani Dawood, and the Director of the Youth and Sports Office, Abdulmohsen Al-Sharif. Al-Sharif elaborated that the extensive 45-day sports tournament, themed "Knowledge and Jihad," featured 148 teams representing various districts and sectors of the governorate. The tournament progressed through league formats at district, sector, and inter-sector levels, culminating in four teams-Bani Hoshaish, Outer Haima, Khawlan Al-Tiyal, and Sanhan-qualifying for the final stages.
Al-Sharif detailed the progression of the tournament, noting that Sanhan and Khawlan Al-Tayyal advanced to the semi-finals. In contrast, Outer Haima and Bani Hashish contested for third place, with Outer Haima emerging victorious.
During the ceremony, ministry and governorate officials honored the Sanhan District team with the championship cup and gold medals, while the Al-Tayyal District team received silver medals and trophies for their runner-up finish. The tournament's officials and referees were also recognized for their contributions. The Ideal Team Cup was awarded to the Outer Haima and Bani Hashish teams for their exemplary sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The event witnessed the participation of several distinguished guests, including Hilal Mu'idh, the Director of Al-Tayyal District; Sultan Al-Hakami and Muhammad Khamis, Deputy Directors of the Education Sector in the Governorate; Captain Nabil Al-Namoos, Director of Sports Activities in the Governorate; Ahmed Nasser, Education Sector Director in Sanhan District; and Youth Directors Malek Al-Khawli, Abdulaziz Al-Shami, and Ahmed Al-Mikhlafi from Bani Hashish, Al-Tayyal, and Outer Haima Districts respectively, alongside numerous officials and sports leaders.
