The former prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was arrested on Saturday in Pakistan?’s eastern Lahore city after a trial court declared him guilty of "corrupt practices" in a case.
The political party Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has confirmed that its party chief Imran Khan was arrested from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. A district and session court in federal capital Islamabad has convicted Khan for corrupt practices related to the state gift depository, an allegation Khan denies. The court sentenced the former prime minister to three-year imprisonment as "Charges of misdeclaration of assets have been proven against the PTI chairman," said Additional and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar. The trial court issued an arrest warrant for his immediate arrest. PTI has announced that it had already filed an appeal in the country?’s Supreme Court. Imran Khan is facing around 150 cases brought against him since he was removed from the PM office last year through a vote of no confidence.
