Sana'a: Sana'a Mayor Dr. Hamoud Abad inaugurated on Monday the free medical camp for cataract removal and lens implantation at the Martyr Mohammed Al-Hafi Medical Complex in Al-Sabeen District. The five-day camp aims to provide free eye examinations, cataract surgeries, and lens implantation services for poor and needy patients suffering from eye diseases. The camp is funded by Direct Aid Society in coordination with the General Administration of Medical Camps at the Ministry of Health and Environment and the Health Office in the Capital Secretariat.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the launch, the Mayor, Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee at the local council Hamoud Al-Naqeeb, Director of the Health Office Dr. Mutahar Al-Marouni, and Director of Al-Sabeen District Mohammed Al-Washali listened to a briefing from the Medical Complex Director Dr. Khaled Awadh on the mechanism for receiving patients. He explained that Monday and Tuesday will be dedicated to examinations and screening to identify cases requiring cataract surgery.
Abad praised the efforts of the supporting authorities behind such health camps, which provide essential services to various segments of society. He called on organizations working in the health sector to contribute to organizing medical camps that offer free healthcare services to poor patients. He stressed the importance of the free medical camp, which has witnessed a large turnout, in alleviating the suffering of citizens, especially under the difficult conditions caused by the repercussions of the aggression and blockade.
For his part, Al-Naqeeb urged donors and businesspeople to support free eye care and blindness prevention activities to ease the suffering of eye patients and restore hope and sight to them. Meanwhile, Al-Marouni and Awadh explained that the camp targets 2,500 examination and screening cases, while 500 patients will undergo surgeries and receive medicines and lenses free of charge.
They noted that examination and screening services are currently being provided, while surgeries will begin on Wednesday and Thursday. They emphasized the camp's importance in reducing the suffering of eye patients, particularly poor and underprivileged individuals in need of surgeries to restore their vision. They also praised the role of Direct Aid Foundation and the relevant authorities in supporting and sponsoring the cataract removal and lens implantation camp and contributing to alleviating patients' suffering.
