Taiz: The National Human Rights Authority has held the leadership of the Saudi-led coalition and its affiliated forces fully legally and criminally responsible for the attack on a civilian house in Al-Taiziyah District, Taiz Governorate, and for similar crimes.
According to Yemen News Agency, the authority expressed deep concern over the shelling incident in Wadi Hanash, Al-Taiziyah District, which injured four civilians, including two children and two women, one of whom is elderly. The attack caused extensive damage to the house and citizens' property, raising alarm over continued violations against civilians in residential areas.
The authority emphasized that the attack is a continuation of systematic war crimes, violating Article 51 of Additional Protocol I to the 1977 Geneva Conventions, which prohibits indiscriminate attacks against civilians. It further stated that the attack constitutes a war crime under Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and violates fundamental human rights as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Highlighting the severity of the assault, the authority noted that the injury of children and elderly women adds to the violations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The body urged the United Nations and the Security Council to initiate an independent investigation and take action against those responsible.
The call to action also extends to the international community, urging for immediate pressure to stop attacks on civilians and residential areas in Yemen while advocating for the lifting of the blockade. The authority warned that the international silence on such matters enables continued violations against the Yemeni people.
