Gaza strip: The response of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to US President Donald Trump's proposal to cease hostilities in the Gaza Strip was widely welcomed by Palestinians and the international community.
According to Yemen News Agency, a number of world leaders have renewed their calls to advance efforts to end the genocide perpetrated by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip for nearly two years. The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced last Friday its agreement to release prisoners, both alive and dead, in alignment with President Trump's proposal, and to transfer the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian technocratic body. Hamas has linked the remainder of Trump's proposal to what it sees as a "comprehensive Palestinian national position."
US President Donald Trump expressed his approval of Hamas's response, while the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the response as it potentially paves the way for a full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, creating conditions for reconstruction, preventing displacement, and supporting efforts towards a just and comprehensive peace.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the constructive nature of Hamas's response to the ceasefire plan, urging Israel to immediately cease all attacks, adhere to the ceasefire, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza to achieve lasting peace. He emphasized that the ongoing genocide must be halted to stop the shame that affects global conscience.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry also lauded Hamas's response, as stated on the X platform, after discussions between Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty about diplomatic efforts, including consultations in New York, to secure a lasting ceasefire and uninterrupted humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry praised Hamas's positive response to President Trump's proposal, appreciating the crucial roles played by Egypt and Qatar in seeking a permanent ceasefire agreement.
UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres expressed satisfaction with Hamas's response, while Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), noted the momentum toward a ceasefire provides hope for addressing the dire needs of over two million people in Gaza.
In Palestine, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement confirmed that Hamas's response represents the position of Palestinian resistance forces, having participated in the consultations leading to this decision. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also hailed the response as patriotic, urging adherence to the agreement to stop aggression and break the siege, paving the way for a political path that safeguards Palestinian rights.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Resistance Committees in Palestine praised Hamas's commitment and flexibility in ensuring the success of mediators' efforts to halt the war and aggression against Palestinians in Gaza. Similarly, the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement commended Hamas's response as a reflection of national responsibility to end genocide and starvation in Gaza.
In a joint statement, Palestinian resistance factions emphasized the responsible national stance underlying Hamas's response, achieved after thorough consultations to serve Palestinian interests and end their suffering.
Additionally, the Gaza Center for Human Rights reported 59 Israeli attacks on Gaza since Trump's demand to cease bombing, following Hamas's response. The center documented 59 air and artillery strikes on densely populated areas, resulting in 34 Palestinian deaths and numerous injuries, highlighting ongoing war crimes despite calls for ceasefire.
