Sana'a: Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights Judge Ibrahim Al-Shami chaired a meeting in Sana'a to discuss improving work mechanisms in correctional facilities across the governorates. The meeting reviewed progress in integrating the Correctional Authority into the Ministry, the remaining steps, restructuring administrative systems, and evaluating current operations. Participants stressed the need to strengthen financial and administrative procedures, unify resources, and identify priorities for the next phase, including infrastructure, equipment, and staffing needs.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Shami urged speeding up the completion of the integration process to enhance performance and services provided to inmates, emphasizing coordinated work and use of expertise. The Deputy Minister and officials also inspected the Central Correctional Facility in the Capital Secretariat, reviewed the prison expansion project with a capacity of 1,000 inmates, and assessed service needs and technical requirements aimed at reducing overcrowding.
They attended a training course for 80 correctional staff, visited workshops producing various crafts, and reviewed the 24-hour health services provided to inmates. Al-Shami praised the efforts to train correctional staff and the quality of inmate-made products. He affirmed the Ministry's support for marketing these products and giving them priority in ministry purchases to help inmates acquire skills for reintegration.
Al-Shami noted that the visits align with government efforts to enhance humanitarian and administrative reforms, improve rehabilitation programs, and strengthen restorative justice.
