Hajjah: The Abs Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative Association launched on Saturday a project for cultivating hard soils and sand dunes in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate, for the year 1447 AH.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, along with the Agricultural Project Financing Unit in the governorate. It aims to cultivate 20,000 acres with sorghum and various types of grains. At the launch, Hajjah Governor Hilal Al-Soufi affirmed the keenness of the Leader of the Revolution and the President of the Supreme Political Council to achieve food security, leading to self-sufficiency.
He emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and optimal use of the rainy season to give proper attention to the agricultural sector. He also highlighted the distinct production of various grains in Abs District and stressed the importance of raising community awareness and activating its role in agricultural expansion.
Deputy Governor Abdulkarim Khammousi stressed the importance of directing efforts toward cultivating hard soils and sand dunes and enhancing attention to tree planting to combat desertification. Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Project Financing Unit, Khalid Akki, explained the unit's commitment to supporting such projects that contribute to achieving self-sufficiency.
In turn, Executive Director of the Abs Association, Majid Adhabi, pointed out that cultivating desertified and hard lands and sand dunes is among the association's top priorities, aiming to achieve a comprehensive agricultural renaissance. He also highlighted the success of the experience over the past two years, appreciating the support and interest of both the ministry and governorate leadership, in addition to the Project Financing Unit.
