Al-hodeidah: Governor Abdullah Atifi inaugurated today, in Al-Dhahi District, a project to provide and distribute single-cross hybrid corn seeds to agricultural associations as part of the Vertical Expansion Project for Maize Production for the year 1447 AH. The initiative aims to bolster local maize production and reduce dependency on imports.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project is being implemented by the General Corporation for the Multiplication of Improved Seeds. It is funded by the Unit for Financing Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives in the governorate, under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, and coordinated with the local authority and the Public Mobilization Division. Speaking at the launch ceremony at Al-Jarabih Farm in the Al-Kadan area, Governor Atifi highlighted the project's importance in achieving self-sufficiency in maize production.
Governor Atifi emphasized the local authority's dedication to supporting agricultural projects that empower farmers and enhance their living standards. He noted that the agriculture sector is a cornerstone of economic development and food security. The governor stressed the importance of utilizing improved seeds to boost land productivity and align with the national vision of 'We eat what we grow and wear what we make.'
Director of the General Corporation for the Multiplication of Improved Seeds, Abdullah Al-Wad'i, stated that the project continues the institution's efforts to improve the local seed production system, ensuring the availability of high-quality seed varieties suited to local agricultural conditions. He mentioned that the corporation has seen success in distributing improved seeds to agricultural associations, which has helped farmers access high-quality inputs.
Al-Wad'i also indicated that future efforts would include expanded field operations to cover larger agricultural areas, supporting the ministry's plans to increase the production of strategic crops. Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit, Yahya Al-Wad'i, affirmed the unit's ongoing commitment to supporting projects that enhance national food security and the productive capacity of farmers.
Yahya Al-Wad'i underscored the project's role as a model of coordination between agricultural financing institutions and field implementation bodies. He stressed the importance of involving agricultural cooperatives and farmers in the project's execution and monitoring to ensure success and sustainability. He reiterated the unit's readiness to provide the necessary technical and financial support to advance agricultural development across districts.
