Launch of Sanitation Workers’ Clothing Project and Waste Bin Maintenance in Sana’a

Sana'a: The Cleaning and Improvement Fund, in collaboration with the General Administration of Cleaning in the Capital Secretariat, has initiated a project aimed at providing Eid clothing for 3,500 sanitation workers. This initiative also includes a plan to maintain small waste bins across streets and parks in the capital, launched under the slogan: 'Partners in Cleanliness, Partners in Solidarity and Charity.' According to Yemen News Agency, the launch event saw the Mayor of the Capital Secretariat, Dr. Hamoud Abbad, commend the tireless efforts of sanitation workers, particularly during Ramadan and the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday. He stated that the distribution of Eid clothing is part of broader efforts, following the earlier provision of Ramadan bonuses, to appreciate the workers who diligently maintain the city's cleanliness. Dr. Abbad stressed the significance of honoring these workers, describing them as creators of beauty within the city. He noted that this initiative meets their needs and will be bolstered by further supportive measures. The Mayor highlighted the project as a testament to an essential humanitarian value, acknowledging the workers' relentless efforts to uphold the city's aesthetic appeal. Moreover, the Mayor introduced the initiative to maintain and distribute small waste bins, implemented by the Environmental Awareness Center. He emphasized the collective responsibility of cleanliness, calling for cooperation from society, institutions, youth initiatives, and civil society organizations. Mohammed Sharaf Al-Din, Executive Director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund, described the initiative as unprecedented. He noted that the distribution of Eid clothing to 3,500 workers marks its first phase, symbolizing gratitude for their unwavering service to Sana'a's residents. He also mentioned the establishment of a workshop to train individuals in tailoring, aimed at producing clothing for sanitation workers. Ibrahim Al-Surabi, Director of the Cleaning Project, remarked that the Eid clothi ng distribution recognizes the workers' year-round dedication to waste collection and environmental preservation. He mentioned ongoing preparations to equip the workshop for continuous uniform production. Sharaf Al-Hamzi, Director of the Environmental Awareness Center, highlighted the waste bin maintenance initiative, executed in collaboration with the private sector. He acknowledged the Ministry of Communications' role in encouraging telecom companies to support the effort. Al-Hamzi reported that 300 small waste bins were repaired and provided in the first phase, with installations in key parks and streets in anticipation of Eid visitors. The initiative also plans for the rehabilitation of 1,000 damaged metal bins, the installation of 200 bins in Old Sana'a neighborhoods and along Al-Saila walkway, and public awareness campaigns to promote responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship.
