Maqbanah: A project to reclaim and protect agricultural land, spanning 2,300 hectares across several areas of Maqbanah District in Taiz province, was launched on Monday.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project is implemented by the Maqbanah Cooperative Association in collaboration with the local authority, the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit, the agricultural sector, the Cooperative Union, and the Bunyan Foundation. The initiative was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by stakeholders and community members.
During the event, Maqbanah District Director Abdulrahman Sanan praised the strong community engagement in implementing agricultural initiatives, especially following the establishment and activation of cooperative associations. He underscored the importance of such community-driven projects in enhancing agricultural productivity.
Mohamed Hibah, Director of the Agricultural Projects Financing Unit, highlighted the crucial role of the cooperative association and local authorities in driving community initiatives to reclaim land and protect it from floods. He expressed the unit's readiness to support the implementation of these community-led efforts, ensuring the sustainability of agricultural practices in the region.
Meanwhile, Hamza Al-Mansaki, Coordinator of the Bunyan Foundation in the Central Region, emphasized that these initiatives reflect the community's awareness and the coordinated efforts of stakeholders in the agricultural sector. He noted the significance of collective action in addressing agricultural challenges and promoting land conservation.
