Taiz: The Deputy Governor of Taiz for Development Affairs, Abdulwasi’ Al-Shamsi, launched on Saturday the use of a locally manufactured bio-product to combat the fall armyworm in corn farms in the areas of Warzan Al-Badu and Dabwan Asfal in Khadir District.
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative comes in implementation of the local authority’s directives to support food security. The product is characterized as a locally produced, environmentally safe product, low-cost, does not affect bees, and contributes to improving crop quality and increasing its yield.
Officials called for forming specialized production groups for farmers, enhancing cooperation with the Agricultural Research Authority that developed the product, and expanding its availability. Support for farmers through interest-free loans for cooperative associations was also emphasized.
The agricultural sector official explained that the fall armyworm is one of the most dangerous pests in the governorate and has caused significant losses, leading many farmers to refrain from cultivating corn.
