Mechanism to Regulate Markets in Hamdan District of Sana’a Discussed to Ease Traffic Congestion

Sana'a: A meeting was held in Sana'a governorate on Tuesday, chaired by Province undersecretary for Services Sector Faris al-Kuhali to discuss the mechanism for regulating markets in Hamdan district and addressing violations and unplanned expansions in order to reduce congestion and traffic bottlenecks.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting brought together Colonel Abdulrahman al-Ataki, Director of Traffic in the governorate; Abdulkarim al-Salami, Director of Human Resources at Sana'a; Fahd Atiyah, Director of Hamdan district; and Engineer Hassan Dharman, Deputy Director of Public Works. The meeting reviewed the current situation in the markets of al-Sawda, Ablas, and the central Hamdan market, as well as proposed solutions to alleviate traffic caused by overcrowding and street encroachments.

It was agreed to require market owners and tenants to close gates facing the main road and instead open rear gates. Street vendors and sales points occupying the streets and central islands will be moved temporarily to the sidewalks as a provisional solution until permanent alternatives are established.

The meeting also recommended that the Cleaning and Improvement Fund install a metal fence along the central island and enhance its visual appearance to improve the overall aesthetics of the area. Additionally, the director of the district was tasked with requiring the owner of the central Hamdan market to allocate a dedicated parking area within one month.

A joint campaign will be launched, involving security forces, traffic police, public works, the Cleaning Fund, and the local authority of the district, to implement the decisions and recommendations adopted during the meeting.
