Sana'a: A wide-ranging meeting was held today, bringing together Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Judge Ibrahim Al-Shami, and Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Engineer Samir Al-Hanani, to discuss ways to complete the furnishing and expansion of the Agriculture, Environment, and Water Court building in the Capital.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, attended by the Justice Ministry's Court Sector Undersecretary, Judge Abdo Rajeh, the head of the Agriculture and Environment Court in the capital, Judge Anwar Maqbel, and judicial and technical leaders from both ministries, addressed final arrangements for equipping the court building and constructing a second floor to include three courtrooms and an administrative office, alongside refurbishing the existing office to match the new structure.
Discussion focused on the allocation of funds for the project according to plans prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture's engineers under their direct supervision, ensuring adherence to technical specifications while minimizing costs.
The meeting reviewed previous steps approved under the late Minister, Judge Mujahid Ahmed, emphasizing the importance of building on these foundations to enhance the independence of the agricultural judiciary.
Judge Al-Shami and Engineer Al-Hanani highlighted the importance of coordination between the two ministries and supporting the agricultural judicial system to improve judicial efficiency. They noted that advancing the agricultural sector requires effective and impartial legal and judicial reforms.
They stressed the need to accelerate work, provide technical equipment, and expand the court premises, enabling it to handle agricultural cases, combat environmental crimes, prevent pesticide smuggling, protect water resources, and support food and water security.
The meeting also included clarifications from Judges Rajeh and Maqbel regarding operational requirements, technical and administrative equipment, and the anticipated caseload from ministries, relevant authorities, citizens, or referrals from other courts in the capital and neighboring governorates, within the court's jurisdiction covering the Capital, Sana'a, Dhamar, and Amran.
The session emphasized the importance of continued coordination between the Ministries of Justice and Agriculture and the Agriculture, Environment, and Water Court to ensure timely project implementation and prepare the court to fulfill its role in protecting the agricultural sector and natural resources in the country.
The meeting was attended by the Legal Affairs Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Yusuf Qatran, along with other officials from both ministries.
Notably, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council issued Decision No. 92 for 1446 AH establishing a specialized court and prosecution office to adjudicate agricultural, environmental, and water cases in the Capital and the governorates of Sana'a, Dhamar, and Amran.
