Al-hodeidah: A meeting in Al-Hodeidah province, chaired by Governor Abdullah Atiyfi, focused on the plight of insolvent and indebted prisoners who are held due to financial cases. The discussions centered around the arrangements for their release ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting examined the legal steps necessary to finalize the cases of insolvent prisoners, adhering to directives from the leadership. Key attendees included Sheikh Ali Nasser Qarsha, head of the committee managing prison and inmate cases, Deputy Governor Mohammed Halisi, Attorney General Judge Amin Al-Qarani, and the province's security director Major General Aziz Al-Jaradi.
The gathering addressed the importance of judicial bodies in expediting procedures and resolving delayed cases. The participants highlighted the critical role of coordination between official entities and community efforts. Emphasis was placed on contributions from businessmen and benefactors to resolve financial claims and facilitate the prisoners' release.
Governor Atiyfi commended the committee's dedication to advancing the cases of insolvent prisoners. He underscored the need for enhanced collaboration among judicial, security, and local authorities to ensure swift progress. Atiyfi also appealed to businessmen and philanthropists to assume their religious and humanitarian obligations in addressing the issues faced by indebted prisoners.
Sheikh Ali Nasser Qarsha confirmed the leadership's commitment to prisoner welfare despite external challenges, noting that significant advancements have been made in releasing numerous inmates through diligent efforts. He outlined the criteria for determining eligible prisoners, such as time served, offense nature, legal assistance eligibility, and unresolved financial rights.
Qarsha announced that in the days leading to Eid al-Adha, many prisoners who have fulfilled their sentences but remain detained due to financial debts will be released. Attorney General Judge Amin Al-Qarani added that the Public Prosecution continues to actively monitor prisoner cases, collaborating with civil society organizations and relevant authorities to settle outstanding private claims.
The meeting concluded with a decision to prepare comprehensive lists of prisoners who have exceeded their legal detention terms, aiming to identify private claims holders and expedite release procedures for those without further legal barriers.
