Meeting in Sana’a Evaluates Environmental Health Administration’s Duties and Challenges

Sana'a: A meeting was held in Sana'a Governorate, chaired by Undersecretary for Municipalities and Environment Affairs, Mohammed Al-Habbari, to discuss the duties of the Environmental Health Administration at the Public Works Office and the challenges facing its operations. According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting included Deputy Directors of the Public Works Office in the governorate, Engineer Hassan Dharman and Abdul-Salam Al-Ghazali, along with the Director of Environmental Health, Majed Awadh, and district-level environmental health officials. They reviewed proposals to address obstacles encountered in fieldwork. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of Environmental Health in monitoring expired food products, taking action against violators, and enhancing oversight of the cleanliness and safety of restaurants, bakeries, and other food establishments, as well as drinking water stations. The meeting also discussed the need to develop the administration's operational mechani sms and its branches in the coming period, and to complete and update the database of establishments at the governorate and district levels. It stressed the importance of coordination with district directors to improve work efficiency and performance. The meeting approved assigning the Legal Affairs Department at the Public Works Office to review the laws, regulations, and circulars governing environmental health and align them with legal standards and the practical realities of field operations. Al-Habbari praised the efforts of inspectors and all Environmental Health staff in the governorate and districts for their role in inspecting, monitoring food establishments, and addressing violations. He urged inspectors to continue performing their duties diligently to ensure all violations are addressed, thereby protecting environmental health and public safety. Al-Habbari also highlighted the need to provide the minimum requirements necessary for Environmental Health offices in the districts to carry out their responsibilities effectively, reaffirming the governorate leadership's commitment to improving Environmental Health operations and overcoming challenges faced by staff in this field. For his part, the Director of Environmental Health expressed appreciation for the governorate leadership's support of the administration's work and stressed the importance of cooperation among all parties to facilitate its mission in safeguarding consumer health and safety.
