Sanaa: A meeting in Al Hodeidah reviewed the achievements of the restorative justice committees, highlighting the settlement of 6,676 cases as part of efforts to strengthen social peace and promote a culture of reconciliation.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was attended by First Deputy Governor Ahmed Al-Bishri and chaired by Security Director Maj. Gen. Aziz Al-Jaradi. It focused on the committees' performance during the first five months of the 1448 AH year and explored ways to enhance their efficiency.
Participants of the meeting reviewed the significant role played by the committees in resolving community disputes, which helps in enhancing stability and reinforcing the values of tolerance within the region.
Ahmed Al-Bishri commended the committees for their substantial achievements in dispute resolution and emphasized the ongoing importance of reconciliation efforts to bolster security and stability in the community.
Maj. Gen. Aziz Al-Jaradi highlighted that reconciliation efforts are deeply rooted in religious and social values. He noted that settlements require the consent of all parties involved and must comply with Islamic and legal provisions, specifically excluding major crimes and cases under judicial jurisdiction.
The meeting concluded with the approval of several measures aimed at improving coordination between security authorities, police departments, and restorative justice committees. These measures include streamlining case referrals, ensuring faster procedures, registering settled cases in an electronic system, and referring serious cases to the appropriate authorities.
Furthermore, the meeting tasked the Assistant Security Director for Community Policing with coordinating a joint workshop with the judiciary. This workshop aims to discuss the expansion of restorative justice mechanisms and strengthen cooperation with judicial institutions.
