Sanaa: Acting Prime Minister Mohammed Miftah conducted a comprehensive review of operations at the Ministry of Electricity, Energy, and Water, focusing on the administrative and technical performance as well as employee discipline within the ministry and its affiliated sectors.
According to Yemen News Agency, during his visit, Miftah chaired a meeting attended by key ministers, deputy ministers, and local officials, including the Minister of Transport and Public Works Mohammed Qahim, Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Ammar al-Karim, and Hodeida Governor Abdullah Atifi. The meeting's agenda centered on the challenges faced by the General Electricity Corporation and strategies to overcome the difficulties arising from ongoing aggression and blockade.
Discussions highlighted the urgent need to address the electricity shortage in Hodeida Governorate, especially given the intense summer heat affecting the region. Miftah underscored the importance of implementing both immediate and sustainable solutions to stabilize the electricity supply and meet the needs of residents.
Miftah emphasized the necessity for relevant authorities to enhance generation and distribution efficiency and to work collaboratively to tackle energy bottlenecks exacerbated by direct attacks on the sector. He urged the Ministry of Electricity and the Public Electricity Corporation to collaborate with local authorities to provide solutions for the electricity crisis in Hodeida within ten days.
Transport and Public Works Minister Qahim stressed the importance of supporting the Ministry of Electricity's plans to alleviate the burden on Hodeida's residents during the summer and to ensure a stable electricity supply. He called for integrated efforts to expedite the implementation of emergency solutions.
Deputy Minister of Electricity, Energy, and Water, Adel Bader, reiterated the Ministry's commitment to prioritizing the electricity sector in Hodeida. He noted that a phased emergency response plan had been approved, with some phases already implemented, though technical and financial challenges remain. Bader highlighted ongoing efforts to explore alternative energy sources to stabilize the power supply.
Hodeida Governor Atifi expressed gratitude for the support from revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council. He highlighted the local authority's readiness to support the Ministry of Electricity in implementing emergency solutions to alleviate residents' suffering.
Acting Director of the Prime Minister's Office, Fahd al-Azzi, confirmed the office's active monitoring of the electricity situation, emphasizing the importance of coordination between government agencies and local authorities.
The head of the Yemeni General Corporation for Cement Industry and Marketing, Yahya Atifa, pledged support for the government's efforts to address the electricity crisis, emphasizing the corporation's commitment to social and national responsibilities.
Dr. Mishal al-Rifi, Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation, highlighted the technical efforts of the corporation's teams to stabilize the system and maintain power generation in Hodeida. He assured that the institution is working tirelessly to address emergency bottlenecks and maximize generating capacities during the summer.
