Sana'a: The Minister of Economy, Industry, and Investment, Eng. Mu'een Al-Mahagri, met today with the newly elected board of the Certified Accountants Association. During the meeting, Minister Al-Mahagri congratulated the board members on earning the trust of their peers, stressing the importance of fostering cooperative ties between the ministry and the association. He emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships with national competencies and enhance the role of certified accountants in protecting and serving the national economy.
According to Yemen News Agency, Minister Al-Mahagri discussed proposed amendments to the Certified Accountants Law. The amendments aim to develop the accounting profession, establish a legal-institutional framework to regulate ministry-association relations, strengthen oversight mechanisms for accountants' performance, and embed transparency as a core principle in accounting practices.
Al-Mahagri noted that the ministry had incorporated feedback from the association and relevant stakeholders on the draft amendments to ensure the law reflects the public interest. He highlighted that these changes are part of broader legal reforms to improve Yemen's investment climate and boost national economic efficiency.
For their part, Amin Al-Shami, President of the Certified Accountants Association, and board members outlined key challenges facing the profession. They stressed the need to modernize laws and regulations governing certified accountants in line with international standards and enhance corporate governance to ensure transparency and accountability.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold a joint workshop involving the ministry, association, and relevant entities to discuss accounting profession development and the proposed legal amendments.
