Sana'a: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Agricultural Cooperative Union, has commenced a three-day training workshop in Sana'a. The event aims to enhance the skills of 35 members from multi-purpose agricultural cooperative associations in seedling production and local fertilizer manufacturing.
According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop is designed to equip participants with both practical and theoretical knowledge in seedling preparation, production techniques, and the creation of local organic fertilizers, with a focus on compost. During the workshop's opening, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Saraji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture for the Plant Wealth Sector, emphasized the necessity of qualifying cooperative cadres in nursery establishment and seedling production to boost agricultural and environmental efforts in both urban and rural regions.
Dr. Al-Saraji highlighted the role of cooperative work in expanding the cultivation of fruit and ornamental trees, which also contributes to improving the aesthetic of public spaces. He noted that cooperative associations play a crucial role beyond agriculture, extending into social, developmental, and economic domains, thereby becoming key partners in local initiatives and community engagement.
Dr. Ghassan Al-Madani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor for the Cooperative Associations and Organizations Sector, underscored the importance of associations in Sana'a leading agricultural and environmental initiatives, tailored to the region's specific needs. He advocated for ongoing cadre training to transform workshop results into practical initiatives at the community level.
Dr. Al-Hassan Al-Dhari, Undersecretary for Economic Empowerment, Development, and Marketing of Production Sector, stressed the significance of activating cooperative associations to drive comprehensive development and economic activities. He emphasized the need to continuously build association capacities and develop specialized units to effectively respond to societal and farmer needs.
Mohammed Al-Qahoum, Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, reiterated the importance of tree preservation and expanding vegetation cover to address environmental challenges and improve agricultural productivity. Al-Qahoum assured that the Union would monitor the workshop's outcomes and assess their impact through field applications and actual implementation within the associations.
The workshop features practical sessions on modern nursery establishment techniques, propagation by cuttings and grafting, and organic fertilizer manufacturing, aiming to enhance the reliance of associations and farmers on local resources.
